I've got an iMac at home and a 3GS. I've been trying to justify the purchase of an iPad and I think that I've been focusing on the wrong areas...or justifications. Originally I was wondering how I could use it at work. I attend several meetings a week, so I was thinking I could use the iPad for taking notes and action items as opposed to bringing a tablet of paper with me.

After reading the forums for the past few days I've noticed that many people say it's really not a productivity tool, but should more be thought of as a media consumption device, for fun and pleasure.

If I decide to make the purchase I'll probably go with a 32gig. I have an iMac at home and for some reason I've never been able to get the wifi working quite right. My iPhone connects to the wifi network when it's enabled, but it doesn't work...not sure if there is a setting or an option I'm choosing incorrectly.

So....I'll head out to Best Buy at lunch and decide while I'm there. Hope you're all enjoying your new iPads!

No question, unless there is someone that can point me in the right direction for fixing my wifi issue so it's usable. It hasn't been an issue until now, but if I buy the iPad I would want the wifi to work.

I'm enjoying my iPad and so is everyone that comes in contact with.

I agree that its used a lot more for consuming media, but I downloaded Pages and Numbers and I find them really to use. I've already done some of my reports for work only using the iPad, the keyboard is actually really easy to use (I have fat fingers) and I can type just as fast on the screen keyboard vs my MacBooks keyboard.

Well, your OP is a little unclear on that. You're having an issue with wireless in general at home, or with one of your devices connecting? What type of wireless router do you have? Perhaps it is outdated or needs a firmware update.....

My only advice for anyone considering buying an iPad "today" is to measure twice and cut once. There are going to be a lot of people wishing they'd waited for the 3g model when that comes out, for instance. Take as much time as you want to make sure you're making the right choice, even if it's a month or two. Of course, if you're sure today, then go for it.

Well, I'll bet there's a lot of people who are waiting for the 3G model, and will buy it, and at some point they'll discover that the only time they really use it is at home (wireless), at a coffee shop (wireless), or on a plane (no 3G, maybe wireless). If they ever use 3G, it may a few times a year.

Those people would have been just fine with a wifi model.....

Obviously, there will be some people that are waiting for the 3G model because they have an actual need for it (eg. lack of wireless, lots of traveling).
