I have an iPad mini 1 that is pretty much useless now. I'm not looking to sue anybody but it does bum me out. If Apple allowed downgrading to earlier ios then my ipm1 would be great.

No, it wouldn't.
It would be running an unsupported OS with many security flaws and unable to run most of the apps in the App Store.

I call BS.

Exhibit A: Has an iPad II (2?) and somehow updated it to iOS 8 recently? Despite the fact that iOS 8 hasn't been offered in more than a year?

Exhibit B: Claims to have purchased an iPad Air because of the poor performance of the iPad 2, yet also claims to have written the op on the iPad 2 with auto capitalization and punctuation turned off. Why not use the iPad Air to type out the rant?

I'm very seriously considering suing apple over ruining my ipad II with an update. It was perfect before upgrading to 8.0. , and now its laggy, takes seconds for keyboard and keystrokes to register, etc. As you can see from my typing and puncuation, ive already turned off every feature including spellcheck in hopes of making it a little faster. Ive tried all the internet 'cures', resetting, and deleting all pictures, videos, etc. So dont bother sending me more suggestions, its too late now. Once i set my mind to something, it CANNOT be changed. In fact, thats one secret of success I would share with you: If you are SURE about something, you must be UNCOMPROMISING.

THE FACT IS THIS: Apple has done this on purpose to force people into the next new product. So i bought an ipad air, (just as they hoped), and now it too is NAGGING ME DAILY TO UPDATE IT. You can bet your ass im going to keep hitting "remind me later" (the only good option), and prevent them from ****ing this one too.

THE MOST IRRITATING THING: Is that many people have this very same issue, and apple refuses to address the issue, or even reply to posts ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE. I doubt they even monitor their own forum.

IF I OWNED A BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY: you can bet that same ass of yours that i would hire at least one nerd to troll my own website and provide feedback on how people are getting along with my product.

I DONT, BUT I DO HAVE MONEY AND A LAWYER ON RETAINER: and sometimes i will have him write nasty threating letters just for fun. Thats right friend, sometimes I will sic him on people just because Im annoyed. This has become one of those instances.

JUST LIKE YOU im tired of seeing people duped out of their money by big companies. Its getting worse every year too. Insurance companies deciding what meds you can take, doctors being wooed by drug companies, politicians promising change yet providing none once they get in office. Its all a big circle of deceit.

YOU DONT BELIEVE HOW SINCERE I AM? NEITHER DID WALMART. LOL. Remember back in the 1990's when Wal-Mart used to spout: "WE BUY AMERICAN WHENEVER WE CAN, SO YOU CAN TOO" Do you remember that advertising campaign? They had banners at the entrance to theirs stores depicting a small (insignificant) company (in some insignificant place) where "X" amount of jobs had been created because Wal-mart was selling their product. Wal-Mart TRUMPETED those false claims for almost two whole years before someone made them stop. How do I know?

BECAUSE THAT PERSON WAS ME. Thats right dear reader, i was able to successfully identify the same person (sometimes persons) in the different (fake) company photos with different background locations. When my little discovery was brought to their attention, they sure did start singing a different tune. All those signs came down overnight and you NEVER heard that slogan again. Im laughing right now, not just because Im kind of an *******, but because everyone that believed them are too. I challenge you to go into Wal-Mart today and NOT buy something made in China.

NOW MY FRIEND that you've read my venomous tirade, (probably because you took a ****ing from apple and didnt like it), I invite you to contact me if you would like to join this cause. You won't have to appear at anything, it won't cost you anything, just a word about your dissatisfaction involving your product. Please limit your comments to IOS updates intended to diminish the quality of your product.

Thank you, and remember that my spellcheck and puncuation has been off and I cant actually see what Im typing until a few seconds later. -S. Smyser

I support this. My iPad Air is not usable after being nagged to install iOS 10 multiple times a day. Not that iOS 9 ran much faster. If you accidentally click to upgrade, it is all over... no going back. How can Apple keep you from using the OS you paid for to begin with? This alone should be worth legal action.

My iPad Air 1 is terribly slow now and I find it impossible to use due to the slow speed. Apple broke their product and they won't let you downgrade to a more usable OS.

I can relate to this .... if an ipad 2 worked 4 years ago why not now?
apple should not make an update and "push" you to update if your ipad is then more or less useless.

same problem every time ...maybe apple should leave out the "problem" models in update? or make a do it your self update (no notification on oldest models) you should press the search for update yourself and a notification saying your device may be slow.

if this was a car how would people then react... I can completely understand this... what other product is this allowed?

mention one other product where planned obsolessence is so planned?

My iPad 2 has given me years of pleasure. It still works pretty damn good under 9.3. Yeah it's a bit slow. It crashes occasionally. On the other hand I spend a couple of hours per day on Facebook. Another hour browsing websites, and several hours a week playing games (mostly asphalt 8 and tapped out). All with acceptable performance for a 5 year old iPad. You're way the hell past your warranty, your lawyers would be just taking your money if they were to try to sue Apple over this nonsense. If it doesn't perform up to your needs anymore, it's time to replace it. I think I can live with mine for another 2 years.

Good luck.

to OP:

I doubt you can prove in court that they have malicious intent. Proving intent is an extremely difficult thing. Do you have proof? Do you plan to hire expensive Private Investigators that can prove Apple is guilty of malicious conspiratorial intent? I doubt it.

The best you can do is to have a judge rule that the nagging update reminders are incredibly stupid and constitute detrimental harassment toward the customer. I agree. Apple should allow us to make those stupid update reminders go away. Maybe it will take a court's ruling to force Apple to make those damn (harassing) update reminders to go away.

It would be running an unsupported OS with many security flaws and unable to run most of the apps in the App Store.

I'm running various old operating systems and old software on my Macs with no troubles, so yes, it is possible and yes, Apple should allow us to downgrade iOS on our devices anytime we want to.

Because there is no possibility to downgrade, Apple should be a bit more conservative in deciding which devices can update... paying a little extra care to performance and stability. The are those who claim that people will complain about not being able to upgrade, but historically those complaining about having the option far outnumber those complaining about not having the option.

"Just don't upgrade" is not a practical option when Apple nags multiple times a day with a pop-up notification that an update is available for iOS and... should you need to refresh the device (not from a backup) the only option is to use the last available/supported version of iOS.

If Apple would simply allow users to downgrade to a previous version of iOS with the understanding that (A) it won't receive support and (B) Some apps won't be able to run because they require a newer version of iOS, then I think it would satisfy virtually everyone (except those who don't want others to have a choice).

I didn't say it wouldn't be possible, I said It would be running an unsupported OS with many security flaws and unable to run most of the apps in the App Store.

Or are you asking Apple and Apps developers to carrying on supporting older versions of iOS?
That is a different point altogether.

Downgrading the version of iOS without support would be pointless and it certainly would not make an old iPad "great again".

If I can afford to keep a lawyer on retainer and have him send out annoying letters for kicks and giggles whenever the mood tickles my fancy, I could probably also afford a new (or even refurbished) iPad Air 2. Not saying that's what the OP should do of course, but that's what I would do. Just sayin'.

Why in the world do mods allow ridiculous threads like this? If OP is stuck on an iPad 2, he probably doesn't have the money for a lawsuit. These forums have been going downhill...

Yes, let's call on the mods to crack down on even more open discourse than they already do.

PLEASE, DEAR LEADER-MODS. SILENCE US.

This isn't open discourse. This is a guy being openly mocked for making stupid claims.

So are you suggesting that we coddle him, rather than give him the ridicule he's earned? Should we shield him from being told he's wrong and acting like a fool? What good does that do? What progress is made?
