I also switched from my unlimited grandfathered plan to the mobile share plan. I really wanted tethering and to be able to tether up to your full data allowance is a nice feature vs TMO where you only get 500mb.

Also keep in mind that TMO 4G is pretty freaking fast, it's not like AT&T. TMO 4G is like AT&T LTE.

don't you have to pay like $60 a month to tether on at&t? Do you regret switching to mobile shared and loosing your grandfathered plan? That is whats preventing me.

Nope, it's not consistent. TMobile claims Boston has LTE, but I've only ever gotten it in some parts of the city. My VZW and AT&T devices have LTE everywhere.

I've heard similar reports all over the USA.

Well what do you expect, Auto Union? All carriers say they cover a market, but they only cover 30% - 80% on launch (even your loved AT&T/Verizon duopoly do this too, don't worry.) The only reason why AT&T and Verizon supposedly cover the whole city now is because they have been deploying LTE for several years.

Yes, the big two have an advantage: Money, towers and spectrum BUT...

Their terrible and expensive prices are what is causing customers to leave.

Thanks guys. I'm mostly in metro areas. I live in LA. And just travel to major areas. I don't mind the spotty service when traveling but I would mind it in a major city. I know someone mentioned that they got consistent 4G and spotty LTE. I would definitely want consistent LTE in major metropolitan cities, NY, SF, LA, DC and the like. Doest that not happen?

I don't even get consistent LTE on AT&T in Phoenix, more often than not i'm on 4G with my iPhone 5.

You know the saying "you get what you pay for" ? It's 1000% true in this case.

In general Verizon > ATT > Tmobile > Sprint. Of course it changes by area, so if you get super lucky you may get away with TMO or Sprint crap service in your city, and just don't travel. Check that out here - www.rootmetrics.com

Around northeast AT&T beats Verizon by a lot.

Say from Washington DC to like Boston, LTE is plenty and FAST. Around Boston I've gotten 60mbps. I average 45mbps here in MD.

TMobile has gone on record to say that they launch at ~60%. Even that is super optimistic. Because I seriously doubt that 60% of Boston is done right now. Fenway still has zero LTE. I still get kicked down to EDGE by Back Bay. Brookline is still spotty.

Hell, Sprint has launched markets with less than 30% done.

The only reason why AT&T and Verizon supposedly cover the whole city now is because they have been deploying LTE for several years.
I bought a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket the day AT&T launched LTE in the US. (Boston and DC were their launch markets.)

I had LTE throughout the entire city. No holes in Fenway, Brookline, Back Bay, all the way out to Waltham, etc. I've been in markets (Hartford, Portland ME, Portsmouth NH, DC, etc) all over the Northeast right after they've gone up.

I've NEVER ONCE had an issue with AT&T or VZW leaving major parts of cities without LTE, after they've announced the expansion. Same can't be said for TMo or Sprint.

TMobile's HSPA network is STILL riddled with holes after almost 4 years of deploying. I'm not even going to get started on their LTE.

BUT...

What can I say. You get what you pay for. If you're too cheap to pay for good service, you end up with crap.

x2. I have both. AT&T wins hands down for overall network performance.

I can drive from Portland, Maine to DC and NEVER loose LTE service. It is deployed all the way down the coast.

TMobile? Patches of 4G and most highways are EDGE/GPRS. Pathetic.

I moved to t mobile from verizon and I couldn't be happier. Verizon had great coverage where I live so I was assuming I was going to give up coverage BUT I was wrong. I have lte and 4g is the same spots. I still have coverage just fine in the cities i visit (Tampa and Orlando) . Very few dropped calls and best of all I'm saving a ridiculous amount of money. I don't regret it at all. Their customer service is another thing. Although I don't need to call them very much I'm very disappointed in that aspect.

Last time I was in LA with a tmobile iPhone 5 I had LTE about 80 percent of the time, the other 20 was very fast hspa. About 2 miles out of the city it turned back to edge until I got to sacremento. To sum up my tmobile expierence it's great when in the city and it's edge when traveling but I don't mind 10 hours of edge once a month.

Another perk to AT&T is that they have, by far, the best smartphone lineup. There was a point where they didn't have any good Androids. Now they get everything. Even random models like the Galaxy Mega, Optimus models, etc

They seem to be getting smart phones before everyone else also. GS4, One, Moto X, etc. AT&T variants shipped before other carriers.

Tmobile also has a pretty nice lineup now (htc one, galaxy s4, Sony Xperia z, iPhone 5, lumia 920?, nexus 4. One thing I did notice is atnt gets a lot of exclusives.

No, no regrets at all. I looked at my data usage over the last year and only 1 did I go over 3gb. My opinion is that if I go over 5, I'd rather pay the $10 to have another gb of full speed data than throttled data on the unlimited plan. I also couldn't tether on the unlimited plan, so that was a no go from the start.

I have 2 lines on my AT&T account, so I was able to switch to mobile shared for about the same cost as I was paying for the lines on a family plan, but pickup unlimited calls, texts and tethering. No regrets at all.

Be aware if you're bring an unlocked phone from AT&T to activate on T-Mobile.

T-Mobile will want you to purchase a phone from T-Mobile within 14 days. Otherwise, you'll be locked in with your current phone for 1 year.

This means, if you'd like to purchase a new phone within that year, you'll have to pay the full price upfront, instead of the down payment.
