Hello everyone, My late-2008 MBP is getting a little long in the tooth, and having trouble keeping up with the larger files I'm starting to deal with. Turning on the graphics card helps, but it gets terribly hot (too hot to use in your lap) and the fan runs at full speed even when I'm not doing anything. I keep my MBP closed and I'm not sure if the fan can ventilate completely so I don't know if this is a good idea. Apple insists it's normal, but I don't like it. I've otherwise treated this guy very, very well, and so I think I can get decent money for it on eBay. Anyway, I'm considering two different refurb iMacs from the Apple Store. the first one looks remarkably better than the second for much less money. Am I missing something? 1) July 2010 27" 2.93 GHz Quad-core i7 w/8MB cache ATi Raedon HD 5750 1GB-$1569 (http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0JP0LL/A?mco=MTkwMzU2MzQ) 2) May 2011 27" 3.4 GHz Quad-core i7 w/6MB cache ATi Raedon HD 6970M 1GB-$1869 (http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD063LL/A?mco=MjMxMjQzNTQ) Other than thunderbolt, which I'm not sure I'll use, what's so great about May 2011 edition that warrants the extra $300? The clock speed is faster, but the cache is smaller. Wouldn't the higher cache with a slightly lower clock speed be a better bet? Also, is the Raedon HD 6970M a mobile graphics card? How would it compare to the 5750 non-M? Thanks, guys.
