Talkin about Apple earlier during dinner and the topic of the outrageous pricing for the iPad Pro.

Do you think Apple is pricing them [iPads] high to inflate their revenue and profits for the iPad?

What exactly is outrageous here? Do any other tablets have custom silicon to account for, not only in the process but the new screen timer chip which allows for screen functionality never before seen? Where is the equivalent product to compare pricing to?

I'm guessing this is really just a thread whining about storage sizes or the fact that (gasp) accessories cost more money, but if my questions above can be answered then I'll have to eat crow then won't I?

You seem a bit defensive.

Maybe for a laptop replacement, once you get the accessories, it costs the same as a MacBook ?

I can see why people question the price . Top end Setup is around £1100 for a 128GB. That's retina 1.2 MacBook territory. If you can afford it great, it's an iPad plus for many people, and it's more expansive than most laptops...

Apple always stiffs you at the point of purchase no matter what. They can keep a naff workstation on the market for two years without dropping the price even when the components have lost half their wholesale cost. It's all about making their wealthiest shareholders even more wealthier while dodging as many taxes as possible and exploiting the cheapest labour possible. This is the beast we feed in the name of progress.

799 for the iPad + 139 for the keyboard/cover + 79 for the pencil = 1017, not 1100. Still not cheap but not need to stick on a fake 8% extra.

£899 + £139 + £79 = £1117 is what I paid.

the LTE model.

The price was totally predictable. Apple's entire product lineup is more or less marked up to premium scales.

How much is a smaller screened, less powerful and more limited iPad Air 2? Then tell me if you think Apples pricing is wrong.

They left out 64GB, the perfect amount of storage for any iOS device, as if professionals would actually feel like they had a choice between 32GB (HA) and 128GB. I think enough can be extrapolated from that kind of price fixing or whatever you'd call it to answer your question.

Spot on. Exactly right.
They left out THE model they know most people would go for.

So, they do what they always do. Make a model with the amount so low, people are worried to buy it, so they plump for the model higher than they want just to be safe.

Apple makes more money

Such an obvious tactic they keep doing, and they keep doing it as it's works.

I wouldn't call it defensive, I'm just annoyed by people that think product engineering is simply a matter of picking parts from vendors and slapping them together.

No discussion about supply chain, manufacturing ramp up, stocking logistics. All I see on these boards is whining about stuff and posters from people who clearly don't know what they are talking about but are CERTAIN they can handle the iPad business better.

Don't get freaked out or anything, but I've heard rumors that ALL companies do everything they can to inflate their revenue and profits! I can't even begin to grasp the scope of such a huge conspiracy!

I should have titled this conspiracy humor. Haha

I think some people are missing my point. I was trying to say in my original post.... Apple is taking a different approach to the iPad pro line compared to the other iPads. What if Apple is trying to increase their profit margins to compensate for declining volume. They have eliminated lower tier options for us, prompting many people to opt for the top of the line model (highest profit margin?). Less options means less operation costs for production and holding stock?

If I'm not mistaken, a product needs to be at least 10% of the overall revenue for the company in order to still be reported to shareholders. Anything under 10% Apple can/will categorize under other.

i don't know what percentage of revenue iPads accounted for last quarter; I'm sure they are still well above the 10% mark.

Please feel free to politely poke some holes and educate me on my blue-collar logic here!
