Is there anything wrong with leaving the MBP constantly connected to the mains power or would it (eventually) wear the battery down?

You should use your MBP on battery every once in a while.

I did this with my Powerbook for several months about 6 years ago, and the first time I tried to use it on battery afterwards, the charge was depleted in about ten minutes. It did recover most of its capacity with continued use over the next few months, but was never quite what it had been.

From what I've heard, the newer macbook pro's don't really have a problem when doing that. That being said however, it might be a good idea to use battery power some as well. I've also heard that if you do use it on power for long periods of time that it's good to drain the battery at least once a month.
