Hi, after upgrading to High Sierra my MacBookPro has been restarting several times a day.

I tried several things, even installing a fresh High Sierra. If I use a user account without iCloud and other services I get way less restarts. Last weekend I attended an workshop and used a new user account and I had only one crash in 3 days and it might have been caused by the software I was using (Touch Designer) that taxes the system to it's limits. During that time I was on wifi, normally I'm on ethernet (thunderbolt adaptor).

Could this be related to iCloud? Even on a fresh OS?

Any ideas? This machine was working flawlessly (with El Capitan) before installing High Sierra!

Thanks!

(I'm trying the "yes > /dev/null &" workaround but it doesn't look like a permanent solution)

Could be the 3rd party crapware called etrecheck.
I think you may be misinformed. Etrecheck is a very well known and useful diagnostic utility. It appears OP only installed it recently to troubleshoot, so this is not likely to be the source of the problem.

Kernel Extensions:

/Applications/Capture One 10.app

Try removing this from /System/Library/Extensions/ and restart.

Also, just as a test, hold the shift key at startup too run in safe mode. That will stop all launch and startup items. If that fixes it, then you at least know where to start looking.

I can report that my MacBook Pro hasn't crashed since running the "yes > /dev/null &" workaround.

I'll try the python script that is also circulating to see if it's more kind on the cpu.

And the problem is with MacOS High Sierra (clean install), before I was running El Capitan and it worked perfect, no crashes.

THIS IS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM. FIX IT APPLE!

Have had similar problems...
OS freezes and then won’t reboot, grey screen of death., etc

How did the yes> work?

It works just fine, but it keeps the processor too busy in my opinion.

Now I'm running this simple python script:

from time import sleep

while True:
sleep(0.00002)

Works better, less hit on the processor and it reduced the crashes to 1 in a week.

I'v attached the file for you to try… just put it in the startup items if you want to use it all the time.

I'm no coder with very little understanding of linux, etc.

What, exactly, does this script do to prevent restarts?

Indeed, why would High Sierra be demanding restarts?

I have had similar crashes, and a fresh install worked for me. I made sure that I wiped my boot drive clean and installed High Sierra over usb drive.
