I'm currently using a Canon HF-100. It's been OK for my purposes.

Something strange happened when I was downloading pictures from my wife's Panasonic Lumix LX-3. I found could open and watch the video clips directly, simply by double-clicking on them. Additionally, I could move them individually from one folder to another. Apparently, they already had Quicktime wrapper.

Until then, I'm not sure I appreciated what an unnecessary pain postproduction prep has been with my HF-100. As many of you know, the only way to even watch a single clip full screen (after it's downloaded) is by importing entire folders into the log and transfer window in FCP, transcoding them into ProRes, and then round-tripping them back and forth to Compressor to remove the 24p telecine.

I don't mind transcoding into ProRes, BTW, as I'm editing on a 2 core machine and I like as much RT as possible.

But I would like each individual clip pre-wrapped and native 24p so I can sort and watch it full screen w/o opening FCP.

Are there any new consumer cameras (maybe $800 to $1200) that work this way? Or is that just select prosumer cameras?

Also, are there any consumer cameras that have another couple stops of low light performance
? It doesn't have to be a higher native ISO sensor then the HF100 approximate ISO 100. If it handles 12db (2 stops) of gain with markedly less noise, that would be fine, too.

Many thanks,
Chris
