I have been an Apple apologist throughout this whole antenna fiasco but after visiting with a Genius this past Saturday, I hope Apple's stock falls hard and iPhone 4 sales begin to plummet. That is the only way Apple will sack up and fix this issue for everyone.

The Genius I spoke to could not have been more rude, denying he ever heard of a signal issue, said I should call AT&T, did not know what Speedtest was, etc. I was never rude but said I found it hard to believe that he never heard of this antenna/signal issue.

This dismissive approach is new for Apple. They used to be very receptive to consumer complaints, and friendly to the most annoying customer who walked in with a complaint.

Maybe more egg in their face and a hit to their stock will have them change their tune.

I like Consumer Reports for most things, but their technology coverage is seriously lame. In their attempts to make it accessible to the average person they tend to oversimplify, and focus on bizarre aspects (e.g., look at how much weight they give the included headphones in MP3 player reviews instead of the user interface and sync'ing capabilities).

Anyway, I think most people who wanted an iPhone want it regardless of what CR says. If you're trying to weigh the pros and cons of different brands of similar things, CR is not a bad resource. Most people aren't reading it to help them choose between an iPhone and an EVO.

But didn't you hear? There are three threads full of people who deny that there is no evidence of any problem at all! :)

I suppose now they'll say that CR's tests don't count because they don't use real cell towers or something.

I'm starting to feel left out that I can't replicate the problem on my iPhone4 even in weak signal areas.

I'll trust that consumer reports tried many phones from different ship times in order to make their report though.

It's a big deal for a lot of people. For myself I like knowing that if I touch a very small strip reception will be an issue. Then I just know that if I place that part up and don't touch it I will get good reception. I have not been able to reproduce it in my area. With that said if I did not own the i4 I would not buy it because of this report. So it is a big deal.

Wow! Not good! I STILL don't have mine (Best Buy SUCKS)! I really hope I don't have these problems and I hope this "fix" Apple releases in the next couple weeks actually has a positive affect!

It will be very interesting to see what Apple does next year. Will they redesign it? That would be a HUGE admission that there is a flaw. Or will they make a smaller revision without a redesign, like putting some sort of clear coating around the band?

That would be $200 million dollars, guess again. :D

They have done it before (but maybe not at such a large scale) ...

It's no surprise that after Apple announced the $200 price drop of the 8GB iPhone, early adopters were a little upset they paid 1/3 more for the device just because they jumped on it quickly. Some will say that it's a price to pay to be first with a hot new gadget, but that's not the point. Apple has, apparently, heard the cries and Steve Jobs has stepped up in a big way.

Jobs announced in an open letter on Apple.com, that all iPhone owners who paid the full $599 for the device will receive a $100 US Apple gift card. Yes, while you may be locked in to buying Apple product with that gift card, it's still an extra hundred bones in your pocket that wasn't there a few days ago.

It's easy to be nice with customers when things go well ;) Now that they are in trouble and might lose a lot of money they work hard to reject the claims.

There is theory that there is supposed to be clear coating around the band and that some arent getting it.

The first rule of propaganda is it must be wielded dispassionately and without admission if it is to be successful.

I have had none of these signal issues whatsoever since the iPhone was released on the 24th June .. not a whiff ... then .. I was really happy ... THEN .. imagine my crushing disappointment and instant removal of the smug grin from my face ... when I found out the reason for this is because I couldnt GET an iPhone due to the fact they never did enough overtime in Taiwan to make enough .. .curses!! ;)

If your phone drops signal...then take it back. You have a defective model and you need to get it back to the apple store for a replacement. Most people do not have this problem. But some do so they need to take theirs back.

my droid-loving friends are having the time of their lives bashing on me and my iphone 4 antenna.

The problem is, i can't argue with them, it really does suck.

What is worse is that Apple treats us like the fool.
