Aren't these the same guys who "couldn't recommend" the iPhone 4 because of the antenna issue that wasn't even a real problem? Do we trust them?

To your point, you have evidence to prove it can bend from normal use? It's been a week and if things like that happen, we should hear more from people. Other than the unboxed guy video and all the media around it together with some incidents, I still have not heard anything new.

I have the 6+ since launch day and put it in my pocket a couple hours everyday, it's still straight to my standard. Is it stronger than my previous 5S? It may be not, but I am willing to sacrifice one aspect in compensation for the improvements in many others. Like when I moved from 4S to 5, though I admit that the 4 and 4S have the best design, in my opinion.

Normal use would be over the course of 2 years for many people.

All we have is relative force required to bend iphone 6 vs iphone 5.
I've thrown my own iPhone 5 onto the wall several times and know that the thing is very solid.
iPhone 6, it seems, I will have to be more careful with.

Let's call this scandal Samsung-derived bendgate.
A little math that suits the subject. An average female that puts the phone in the back pocket of her jeans weighs about 125lbs or less. At the worst angle of impact, the weight of her upper body is about 65lbs, not enough to do the damage.
Now, unless you are Governor Chris Christie, all bets are off!

Just a day after Apple issued its first statement regarding the ongoing complaints that the iPhone 6 Plus bends in user pockets, Consumer Reports has released its test results for how "bendable" Apple's new phones are. In summary, the results show that the new phones are far stronger than what some testimonies have suggested in the past few days.

brightcove.createExperiences();
To test the phones, Consumer Reports put them through the "three-point flexural test", which has the phone supported at two ends and has pressure applied at a third point, alongside competitors like the HTC One (m8), Samsung Galaxy Note 3, LG G3 and iPhone 5.
The results showed that the 6 Plus was actually stronger than the iPhone 6, starting to deform at 90 pounds of force and having its screen and case separate at 110 pounds of force. The iPhone 6 started to deform at 70 pounds of force and started coming apart at 100 pounds of force. The HTC One (m8) performed the worst in Consumer Reports' test, deforming at 70 pounds of force and coming apart at 90 pounds of force.

The LG G3 started to deform and come apart at 130 pounds of force while the iPhone 5 deformed at 130 pounds of force and came apart at 150 pounds of force. The Galaxy Note 3, on the other hand, deformed and came apart at 150 pounds of force. Consumer Reports notes that while other phones, like the iPhone 6 and HTC One, were still functioning after deforming and coming apart, the Note 3 stopped working right away.

Overall, the magazine notes that while none of the phones they tested were indestructible, all devices tested should hold up fine under everyday use.

Too bad forum members have already dismissed Consumer Reports: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/969671/

Oh wait... they are saying something good about Apple? Consumer Reports is totally legit!

wait a minute. wait a minute. sooooo the iphone and other newer smartphones are more likely to bend than predecessors? i wish they bent an iphone 4. that'd be interesting to see. i'd like to see some quality devices coming from these companies that are charging so much money for them. for $650 i expect more durability.

How the *** is that real world testing? Nobody does that with their phone. And anybody who does needs to have their head examined. I'd love to know where this guy is getting all these 6 Pluses since they're supposedly so difficult to find right now.

What do you do with your phone?

Looks like iFixit was right then when they said the iPhone 6 is easier to open...

I can't help but feel we were all 'bluffed'.

I can't even further believe we all must rely of these 'tests' just to see the truth, all false, or whatever..

The phone is aluminum. that' tell you all. Who cares how much, or how little...

It bends... that's enough info.

That's one seriously messed up phone.

All the bend gate attention is going to create a limit on how thin these aluminum phones can be. Every year apple brags about making thinner and thinner phones. The cost is obviously rigidity. Hopefully this will mean better battery life, non-protruding cameras, as well as more strength in future iPhones.

This is the ultimate bendgate video: uncut, new iphone, in public, with witnesses.

I wonder what Apple's reaction to this will be.

#BendGate is here to stay

:D

So perhaps Apple should do a total recall and make a reinforced Iphone 6 and 6 Plus. The phones just bend to easily and they're crap. They won't serve the purpose for any person out there and everyone should expect their phone to just bend. lol..It's just plain ridiculous!

Just curious, how long have you owned your current phone? Is it bent? I've owned an iPhone 4S, 5 and currently own a 5s. I never had issues with bending with any of those phones.

This is the typical illogical reasoning of Apple hating trolls. lol

why can't just a reputable source such as consumer reports, or any of the tech blog, try to replicate the bending by hand test.
We know the testing machines don't bend it easily, we get that, Apple tested it, Consumer reports tested it....

And then we have a guy that everybody claims to be a fake, easily bending the phone by hand.

Can't we just have a reputable source do that test?

I don't understand why everyone one want the phone bent by hand. It's simply not realistic. If someone can replicate ON VIDEO bending the iPhone in a pair of tight jeans, then I'll be convinced that it's a problem that buyers need to be aware of.

Really? Debate Ended?? No. Really. NO.

Wow. People really do hear what they wanna hear.

The CR Test, very scientifically too as many point out, shows that the iPhone 6 is nearly half as strong as it used to be.

Let's not spin this like CR did: the new iPhone lost 60 lbs of rigidity.

SIXTY POUNDS.

I'd wager most people here cannot bench press a pair of 60lb dumbells.

That is a HUGE difference.

So CR basically proved that yes, yes it is as bendable as previously thought, weaker that all but one of the phones tested (nearly matched), and certainly a LOT MORE BENDABLE and LESS STURDY than the previous iteration.

C'mon folks. I like Apple too, but the frakking emperor is naked here!

Still, now you know. Baby your phones people, now way more than before.

If you think this is going to silence the bend gate morons you're wrong. these dumbasses are going to keep bitching and making fun for years.
there is no silencing senseless apple haters, especially since it seems to be hip nowadays.

Yup, exactly that. Stupidity seems to be so trendy these days, people are actually looking for it. I wouldn't be surprised if we even see official mockery on the subject (e.g. some "competitor" ads pointing to this non-issue).

EXACTLY. Why? There's a SIXTY POUND difference in rigidity between them and the i6.

This is nonsense. There trying to cover up things up for apple. If peoples iphones have been bending then that's apples fault. No need to come up with false claims of other phones being the same or weaker cause that isn't true. Nobody has been claiming other phones bending in there pockets so why make up lies. I put my phone in my backpocket all the time and don't even have to worry about it bending.

Nobody is claiming it? Or you just haven't heard about it because the media doesn't go into a frenzy over HTC, LG and Samsung issues because they don't draw nearly as much interest as Apple news?
