Contacts app is a nightmare on Tahoe.

I get the idea was you can now customise them with memoji and stuff but that's no excuse for the default looking like this. If we are going to have cards rather than text on a white background then these should be exquisitely designed, with a photo realistic look of a business card for example, and delightful to interact with, not this crap.

I hate every inch of it.
I have 2000 contacts, just ONE has a poster created.
Besides that, is just short-sighted to expect that the text (both in notes and in the rest of the fields) would be readable under any different color that one particular contact could use for his poster.

And also there's a question of preferences. Maybe I really don't like the brown or pink color selected by a contact, and I have to live with it or manually disable it one by one.

I just need a "turn off posters" and "use white background" buttons.

I have an insufferable step-sister I have to deal with on a regular basis and her initials are "BS". As much as I hate the contacts design I at least get some minor joy seeing her giant "BS" initials shimmering on my screen during our phone conversations. Sums up the experience perfectly. 😂

It would be nice to view my contacts in a standard business card-like format and add information (if needed) to export to a new contact. The picture/name in Contacts take up half my iPhone screen that and I like the idea to have a settings toggle to turn off posters

Almost certainly they come from your gmail account.
Are they maybe a list of spam/blocked emails which, for some reasons, have been imported in your Card? I would suggest to login into GMail web and check your Contacts. Maybe there's an option which automatically added every email address who sent you an email to your contacts. I'm just guessing.

I am trying to reduce my dependence on Google as much as I can, so I have imported into iCloud only the contacts which I need (not all the Gmail contacts) but there are still some persistent email addresses which don't go away.

I have the impression that they could have been saved in some local database which must be manually purged, but again, it's a guess.

Hey, late reply, but... I don't use Gmail, so none of this applies to me. No blocked emails either. These addresses appear nowhere that I can find on my system via Mail search or Spotlight, or Google searching on the internet.

Just checked Contacts again and this bug is still there.

Probably the only case for dev not being embarrassed is if [somebody's] AI coded it.

The way I “fixed” it: I deleted all the unwanted contacts, exported them, deleted all the db files of the app. Reimported. Eventually iCloud resynced the db across iOS and MacOS. The key word here is: “eventually“.

Just to quickly reiterate: one (slightly kludgy) workaround is to use the iCloud web app version of Contacts, which they have not so far hosed with the garbage new interface. It looks more or less identical to the Sequoia version of Contacts:

View and edit your contacts with Contacts on the web. Changes will sync across your devices with iCloud.

I went so far as to use the Safari “save to Dock” feature to make it a little web app of sorts.

Not elegant, and I don’t love using web apps, but at the same time it’s nice to not have to look at the ****-show Tahoe Contacts app.

I notice this too. If I've assigned an image to the contact then it doesn't happen. Basically, the area outside of the content of the card is not receiving mouse events unless there is a real background, not the default blue-ish stuff.

I've seen this. But, if I modify a note then the area seems to grow and eliminate the problem. Looks like a bug where they addressed something but failed to consider pre-existing data.
 
I went to add a new contact yesterday. I clicked the "+" icon and then "New Contact". Instead of an empty card to fill in I was presented with a random choice from one of my existing contacts. I suppose there's a chance I accidentally clicked on the "Edit" icon, but certainly the particular contact which I began editing was one I'd not looked at in years.
 
I seem to have found something that helped VERY slightly -- I noticed that on some contact cards I can copy the phone number, address, whatever. On others, I cannot copy any of the text unless I go to edit mode. I took one of those un-copy-able cards, added a photo to it, and that alleviated the problem with that card. It also made the background darker, making the text easier to read.

The Tahoe Contacts app is still a major regression from previous, but that at least helped one aspect, for me.

Adding a photo really does fix a lot. Contacts with photos don't flicker. Unfortunately, it's not a cure-all. My wife's card has a poster that was shared from her phone to my computer. Any photo I assign doesn't show and the card has problems. I can't copy fields nor can I scroll it at all with the mouse wheel.
 
I've been able to reproduce one bug that happens when no photo or poster is assigned. I have to have at least 4 fields above the Notes field, and it has to be the case that the Notes field is cut off at the bottom of the window when you first open the contact.

When a card is not malfunctioning it seems you can usually click on the ">" to assign a photo and the contact automatically goes into edit mode ready for edits. But, if I open a 4-number card with the Notes field cut off at the bottom, a mouse click on the ">" does nothing. I've also seen such multi-number cards go into edit mode with a click on the background to the left of the "Contact Photo & Poster" field.

Finally, multi-number cards seem to only intermittently respond to mouse wheel scrolling.

It's completely fixed after assigning a photo, emoji, or whatever to it.

I've made a habit that whenever I go to a contact that doesn't have anything assigned for a photo, I pick something at random. I have almost 700 contacts and I don't plan on doing it proactively.
 
it would be nice (and long overdue) for Apple to allow us to output labels properly and in a useful way. I have suggested this to Apple on several occasions.

iCloud contacts syncing is completely broken for me on Tahoe 26 and is still broken with the 26.4.1 update. I've tried all kinds of troubleshooting steps from Apple support and various sources online, but nothing has fixed it.

iCloud contacts syncing works flawlessly for me on iOS 26 (I'm currently running 26.4.1) so I've resorted to turning off contact syncing on the Mac, then doing a weekly export from iOS to import into my Mac.

It's ridiculous but, until Apple gets their **** together, it's the best option I've found to keep contacts in sync across iCloud, iOS and MacOS.

Wait! Everybody stop what you're doing!

Drag 'n dropping a photo onto the image circle now works! You no longer need to save a picture in your Photos library (very lame solution). Say you have a work contact with a photo in a web page: you enter the edit mode and just drag the photo from the browser to the circle.

Magic! 🎉 When did it start to work?

In German Version of macOS the postal or zip code and also the house number is showing wrong. It shows for example "1 Bundesallee , Berlin, Germany" instead of "Bundesallee 1, 10115 Berlin, Germany". Hope that's fixed in Tahoe.

Found this forum after months of frustration of using my contacts on Tahoe. Is there a solution yet to this? It is so sluggish that editing/searching is becoming multi-seconds operation.

How do we fix this? Does Apple contacts team aware of this, how do we open bug against this team?
