Contacts, calendar problems with icloud

I have tried to find an answer to this, but I can't figure out what to do. I have a macbook air, ipad and iphone. Ever since syncing with icloud, I have multiple calendar events/contacts that appear on each device. How do I streamline this to where they all talk to each other and there isn't redundant information on each device? Do I need to not be syncing with icloud? I'm sorry if this isn't clear.
