Contacts in messages name update slowness

Does anyone else have this slowness when opening the messages app. Takes a few seconds of displaying the number then realising it’s a contact in your phone book?

My guess is that they are trying to make more use of Swift concurrency and are trying to load the names asynchronously. But because of the way this works, it almost always leads to a situation like this: the UI updates way after launch and creates a jarring user experience.
 
It’s been happening to me on and off since iOS 18.4. I have yet to find the cause or why it sometimes doesn’t happen. There are some Reddit threads going back to 18.0 Beta with the issue. It also started happening on my MBP with Tahoe.

I’ve also had this on and off. It’s now doing it on my iPhone, iPad and Mac.
I’ve tried all the usual fixes but nothing seems to work now.
