Okay, I have had this issue before and everything I have done to try and fix it this time is not working.

I have recently added some new people to my contacts. I am receiving their messages on my Mac, but their name is not showing up on the message, just the phone number. The default account on my phone and Macs (I have two with this issue) is the iCloud account. On my MacBook Air, the newly added contacts aren't even showing up in the contacts app. I have signed in and out of iCloud, disabled the contact syncing and turned it back on, restarted my devices... nothing.

Any idea what to do because it is driving me crazy not knowing who is texting me!

Do you also sync contacts between Google or Exchange? If so, might have accidentally put the contacts in a different account/group.

Sign into iCloud.com and see if the contacts in there: might be an issue on the phone end.

I signed into iCloud.com and the contacts are not there. How do I get this fixed?

Like NoBoMac mentioned there is a good chance the contacts may be in an exchange group (Company emails?) or another email provider like google / gmail

You can check on the Mac to see if the contacts are in the "All iCloud" folder or the "All on my Mac"

You can ussually drag these contacts from the "On My Mac" folder to the "All iCloud" folder so they can sync with iCloud

You can check on icloud.com for the number of contacts - see picture below and compare with your number of contacts on the iPhone, iPad, MAC etc. - they should all have the same iCloud contacts if synced properly.

I think I got it. I went into my personal MacBook Pro and opened up the contacts. I dragged the contacts that weren't working into iCloud and now two of them are showing up as correct on my messages. There are a couple of others that are just showing the number, but I know the contact is now in iCloud so I am hopeful that when they text me next it will have worked itself out.
