So the latest news from Netflix regarding audio enhancement brought to my attention that Netflix was already offering Atmos sound on certain movies and series. Having a Roku Ultra, I didn’t know this because for whatever reason, they only support it on ATV and Xbox. So I was thinking about switching.

In basic research, I came across quite a few forums and topics regarding sound issues with ATV and Amazon Prime (and some others like Hulu).

Is this still an issue with the ATV? Anyone else switch from Roku Ultra to ATV4K?

Thanks!

I have both. I generally find that overall the sound from the Roku is still a bit better than the ATV. Granted I only have a 5.1 setup, but the ATV always needs me to turn up the volume and it just doesn’t sound as full. I know others have mixed results as well.

As for Hulu, they are still 2.0 for most devices including Roku and ATV.

Amazon has had issues in the past but I don’t recall seeing any new ones recently, although we do watch most stuff on the Roku still so not sure.

That’s about what I’ve been reading. Maybe it’s better I stick with Roku for a while longer. Just wish I could get that Atmos on Netflix.

Maybe the ATV will overcome any low volume issues with Atmos tracks. I don't know since I only have 5.1 right now. Might be worth a shot if you can return the ATV if it doesn't work out.

I buy film from iTunes and have for 10 years or so. Not an Apple TV problem but more of an iTunes decision i guess. When watching on my MacBook, iPad Pro or iPhone's, I always have to have the volume on maximum. Some films are very low in volume.

It's a very bizarre Apple decision I guess from day 1 - maybe to avoid distortion? OR is it a characteristic with Dolby Digital as DVDs always required you to turn the volume up didn't they.

Hopefully, Apple will replace all of their catalogue with high bitrate DD+ at the very least.

Ok, so went to the local Walmart and they had one left. It was the 64gb model. After a lot of googling, reading and playing with the cables, I finally got everything to work as desired. Getting Atmos now on Netflix and Prime (Jack Ryan). Everything looks and sounds great! And the speed of moving around the system beats the Roku Ultra. Not by a ton, but enough to notice.

Now I have to learn more about using this extremely simplistic remote control.

OH WOW same version as mine. You'll love the screen savers and the match frame rate too!
The remote is so clean PLUS it's there on the iPhone too!

I hope that you have a great time with it. I havn't come across anyone that does not love it! you'll be impressed with iTunes 4K Dolby Vision films! NJOY
