Continuity requires wrist detection?

hey just wondering can someone tell me if continuity to unlock a Mac requires wrist detection?

I have wrist detection off because my watch kept asking me for a password which is a pain so just wondering if this will be another feature I don't really get to use (like Apple Pay)
 
While I'm not a developer (and don't have wOS3) I find it hard to believe Apple would allow you to unlock your Mac with an unsecured :apple:Watch.
