My wife is using my 8GB 2G iPhone and the contract just ran out. I want to get a discounted 3G, but then swap the SIM card back into the 2G so she can continue to use it. Is this possible?

I just want to 3G to use as iPod and as a Golf GPS.

Yes it can be done, be advised several of the Golf GPS apps need cellular coverage to download the maps of the course for where you're playing. I say cellular because most courses do not offer WiFi on every hole.
