I have an unlocked original (non-3g) iPhone that I've been using with pay as you go and unlimited medianet. Since that is going away, I am wondering if I can go on an iPhone plan with AT&T. But I was hoping that I didn't have to get a 2yr contract since I'm not planning on buying a subsidized iPhone. I was thinking that gophone (pick your plan) would work but I thought maybe the data plan wouldn't work there either.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

Also, can you get iphone plans for the original iphone that have the $20 data plan (Edge) rather than the $30 data plan (3G)?

thanks

AT&T will require a two year contract on any iPhone. The only exception was in the 1st generation iPhone, it was possible to fail the credit check so that you could be on a month to month contract.
