Control centre: Apple TV remote not working

i can’t seem to get the Apple TV remote in iOS 11’s control centre to work. It constantly says ‘searching’. The regular Apple TV remote App works fine.

I have an Apple TV 3.

Anyone else experienced this?

Surely a bug though, as the TV Remote app (looks identical) does work...

I refuse to believe they'd intentionally not make it work with Apple TV 3 or below...

I’ve never gotten around to reporting this one as we don’t use our bedroom ATV really but definitely agree it’s a bug. I’ll report it if you all will.

I wouldn't bother reporting it. According to the Apple description of the Control Center, the Control Center's Apple TV remote only works on the 4th gen or 4K. I'd wondered why only one of my Apple TVs showed up. The 4 shows up, but not the 3. I'm planning on getting a 4K soon so that problem will go away.

My hunch: Siri Remote. Not available on ATV 3 or older.
Sad they couldn’t just gray that out and let us ATV3 folks use Control Center like human beings.
