convert avi to mp4

I'm sure this has been covered before but I can't find any good programs to convert avi's to mp4's on my mac running leopard. I will pay for the software if it works good.

Mac the ripper converts pretty well but I don't know how to get it in the widescreen... like the mp4

edit: I know it works in Leopard. I've used it 4 or 5 times since I've upgraded.
