Hey I want to extract the audio from an .flv video. The only way i know of doing this is by putting it in imovie and then doing extract audio but I cant add a .flv video to imovie. What can i do?

Why even bother with software? Just google search for FLV online converters. If you are getting the source from popular sites such as YouTube or DailyMotion then simply search for online converters...vixy or the like can actually convert it to MP3/AVI/MP4 containers...so only download only the file format u want.

I messed around with software running locally on the laptop/MB/MBP but found that the online versions save me having to mess around with mostly crapware in my eyes.

sorry

mifka - I'm being an idiot
I have paid for visualhub but cant see where the option to create a .mov is?
trying to turn flv to mov
help!
it seems to be able to convert to the following:
itunes, psp, dv, dvd, avi, mp4, wmv, mpeg and flash

It seems the OP wants just the audio from the .flv files. In that case the simplest option is to open the .flv in the free QTAmateur viewer, then go to File-->Export... and select "Wave" or "AIFF" as the output. This assumes of course that Perian is already installed. QTAmateur also lets you do batch exports to expedite things.

Use iSquint

Grab the flv's using Safari and the activities window then use isquint to convert to mp4.

Thanks to this forum I did this

I downloaded perian then purchased QuickTime Pro. Now I can convert FLV to MOV and then import into iMovie.

For some reason Perian is not working anymore with the flv's from YouTube. I just got the latest version and it didn't make any difference. Was also unable to convert the files in FFMPG

Just use MPEG Streamclip in the aforementioned post. Works extremely well for anything... except real media. How I loathe that format.

Thanks for the perian tip... gabbing vids off youtube, doing the conversions how you said and dropping them right into imovie '08 to do my podcast...

G-7 rocks!:D
