Convert songs to ringtones

Hi guys, I just realized today that you can only convert songs purchased from iTune to ringtones. I mean, seriously, WTF? I'm not allowed to convert songs ripped from CDs? Is there a way around this or do I need a 3rd party app to convert?

Use Garage Band. You can make a high quality ringtone from any song for free! 🙂

I use Switch to convert iTunes songs to MP3, then I edit them with Audacity to make the ringtone. Both apps are self explanatory.
