I am trying to export a movie I just made in FCP and I'm trying to figure out what the best way to get it down to the right size. Is there some sort of program I should download for this, or should I use FCP? What is the best file type to export to if i want to post it on the internet.

If you own FCP as part of Final Cut Suite 2, then you should have a nifty little program called "Compressor" which is a dedicated App for doing multiple exports to all sorts of formats/bitrates/etc. Other than that, I'm not sure. 🙂

In the biz of film/video we use Sorenson Squeeze. Expensive but you can't beat it. I got my copy from my job and won't use anything else. But if you compression isn't that big of a deal use Compressor which comes with Final Cut Studio 1 & 2 i believe.

Also, with Sorenson Squeeze 4.5 you can compress for macromedia Flash Movie/Video (.swf / .flv), Quicktime, Windows Media Video, mpeg1-2, Mp3 audio

+ capture audio (easy mp3 compression), + filters + much much more.
