Is it possible to convert the memory on your harddrive into RAM?

Or how about letting all applications use Virtual Memory?

Not. A. Good. Idea. One is for memory, the other is for storage. VM is a specialized use, and only for when not enough RAM can be allocated. The only solution is to get more RAM, really.

RAM: 5-70 nanosecond access time
HDD: 5,000,000-15,000,000 nanosecond (5-15 millisecond) access time.

So, Electricman5, I am curious what problem it is that you are trying to fix. I think the assumption is you want more speed - is that correct?

Your OS already does this automatically. You don't need to reinvent the wheel.

The problem is that hard drives are an order of magnitude slower than RAM, so using Virtual Memory slows the machine down.

Thats it... I have the old PowerBook G4 with 512 mb of ram... i was just wondering if i could get it to run faster.
