converting mkv for dvd player

I've search the forum and seen alot of 'converting mkv files for apple tv or ps3' threads, I just need to know what programs/method is best for burning a mkv in order to be played in a standalone dvd player or xbox 360. VisualHub seemed to work okay, but it automatically compressed the file size to like 3.8 gigs or something, how do i change it so VH doesn't automatically compress every conversion to dvd to 3.8 gigs? . . Anyway, if someone can explain the best way of going about converting or doing w/e needs to be done to burn mkv files without loosing any quality it would be greatly appreciated. ( VH or not )
