Recently I recieved some .MOD files that I think were actually mpeg 2 that were created on a PC. I was able to convert them to Mp4 and import into iMovie with Video Monkey. This is the open source program that replaced Visual Hub after developers ceased development. Give it a try and let me know it you were successful. The setting I used was for Apple TV.

Don't you need Mpeg2 QT component to be able to play mpeg2 with Streamclip. I can not with SL.
BTW Toast 10 has rather good mpeg2 decoder independent from QT. So do some other apps.
