Converting songs from apple lossless to aac

I need to convert my songs from the apple lossless format to aac. I was wondering if there was a way to make the songs just convert rather than making a second cop of them. It is getting tedious going through and deleting the other copy of them. Thanks

Well how many do you need to convert? You could create an automator function that would convert the file and then trash the old one or something like that.

I have like 7000 songs

you would have to create a batch exporting process, such as with Automator (already been sugessted).

another way would be to open them all in itunes, then convert them all into AAC, then sort everything by date created, then delete all of the older files... seems simple enough..
