Hi,

Have I left it too late??

Does anyone know of an app that will convert System 7 sound files to something modern?

I can use my Pismo to boot in System 9 if that helps...

I actually also have some sound files which I believe were System 7 era, and when I moved to OS X, they started showing as just "document" files with a black icon with "exec" in green text... I know back in the day, I converted some of them back to something usable, but can't remember what I used...

Ultimately there's nothing I'm going to cry over if I can't convert these old files... just the nostalgic critter inside me wanting to resolve history.

Cheers and thanks

The "exec" files - when ".aif" is added - in Quicktime just say "end of file reached"...

open a terminal and use head /where/ever/your/file/is/the_file and post the output here. Basically the commands types the beginning of the_file to the terminal, maybe this allows to identify the format.
How big are these files?
One other important point is that System 7, 8, 9 stored data and resource forks separately - probably either is missing in this case (?)

Try using SoundApp on Mac OS 9. It can play and convert System sounds (snd) and all other old sound formats from that era into AIFF or WAV for current compatibility.

I can confirm that Sound Studio 2 and 3 can play and convert the files in OS X.

I should have a version of Sound Studio somewhere... just will have to work out which Mac I have that can run it.
