I have a macbook aluminium and and imac, both on osX. Both are fine for my needs (uni work and surfing the net mostly).

Why should I upgrade to Snow Leopard?

Why should you be convinced? If you don't want it there's nothing wrong with that. I'm just buying it to buy it personally. I might see some gains on my Mac Pro but I doubt it will be anything earth shattering for what I do on a day to day basis.

These convince me threads drive me nuts. If you want it, buy it. If you don't want it, then don't buy it.

If you are interested in it, read Apple's page about it, and come back with specific questions.

We don't need to convince you.

You've already made your mind up!

Being a student, you don't need to spend money, so save it.

He's a student, he can't help it. :D:D

Disclaimer: (could be a she).
I'm really feeling the love in here tonight guys!

I'm a she btw.

In my defence, I've read the Apple blurb and it's just faster this and that. Nothing there to convince me that I 'need' it. I'm thinking I must have missed something for all the fanboys to be creaming themselves over it? Am I?

Then you don't "need" to buy it.
Right?

;)

Example, when the iPhone 3Gs came out… I read Apple, Inc's stuff and guff. Nothing there made me think I "need" it. So, I didn't buy it. Works for me…

Not really. Snow Leopard is a release for developers, not users. I'll upgrade when software I rely on starts requiring Snow Leopard's goodies. I see no reason to do so in the meantime.

What new features and improvements there are is enough for my aging MacBook.

Also, If you are motivated enough to create this thread in the first place, I think you have already made up your mind.

In my opinion, It's worth the $29.

As you have one of the alu macbooks it will help with watching films on Quicktime as it off loads the processing onto the GPU (thats just for a start, being a student I work and watch films at the same time and it sometimes kills the performance on my mac).

It will also just generally speed up you mac. I have ahem*played with the beta builds and the difference it makes in just general speed on my white macbook is actually quite impressive and definitely worth however much you have to pay in wherever you live!

You are not going to get any sympathetic advice here, because in my view your asking a silly question.

Final time: you do not need convincing, make a choice, and live with it.

No big deal anyway.

If you read the Snow Leopard page and actually did a little research, considering your a student - you would have had your answer by now.

i'll convince you:

it's 30 dollars, it's NEW, BIGGER, AND BETTER

and i am an american

these reasons alone will sell snow leopard

If you have a question about it, ask. Don't ask us to tell you what it improves. If it wasn't better, why would Apple put it out? Smaller footprint and GCD are flat out enough to justify a measly $32.02 shipped to your door.

If you'd actually read my reply you'd see that I have.

cheapest upgrade ever :D even if there is a minor update (which is false because there are a lot of update) it worth updating:

store.apple.com/us/product/MAC_OS_X_SNGL?mco=NzgxMDc2NA

Why do so many people here need convincing to buy an apple product.

I think the point for some of these is because the OP likes to see how many people (s)he can make mad by asking why (s)he needs another Apple product. Like we're complete Apple-obsessives whose only purpose in life is to make other people pay more money to Apple. My take, anyways. :p

It's $30; just ask each of your friends for $1 each, and after about 30, the upgrade will be free.

Likewise, if you can convince well enough, you might be able to get that amount from members on the forums.

Isn't that a pyramid scheme?
