I am going to do it. My main reason is a snappier OS, and the pure enjoyment of the experience. :apple:

I thought I was the only one who hated these Convince Me... threads. :p

Anyway, if the idea of better usage of (multiple core) CPUs and GPUs along with 6gb of hard drive spaced freed up is not something you think you can benefit from, so be it.

I have to confess that some of their tweaks sound handy. I don't know about the speed improvements though. My iMac is plenty fast enough for what I need to do with it. I could buy more memory if it weren't, and I could upgrade the operating system. Sounds like it would have prettymuch the same effect.

However, I help a lot of people around here with installing/reinstalling Mac OS X. Since the installer is apparently being streamlined, having experience with the updated installer would be very nice.

if i upgrade to snow leopard on my 1st gen macbook, would i need to back
up all my previous documents that i have on my macbook now?

No. The upgrade process will keep all of your stuff.

All these threads that start off:
"Convince me…"

Why?
Why should we care?
Think for yourself and live with the consequences.

Best thing I have heard all week. To be honest I think this phrase needs to be stickied at the top of each page on these forums! Especially the why should I go mac? Help me convince my parents?

Good show that man!

Having a backup of all your important files is a great idea all the time, but especially when you will be working with so many system files.

If you don't backup, Murphy dictates that something will go wrong, and next thing you know, we'll be seeing this thread:

SL upgrade borked, no backup. Need help getting files back!!!1!1!

I never realised the tone of my reply will change based on gender, until now
:D

That's the internet for ya. Personally, I prefer to use gender-neutral pronouns until a user indicates their gender, unless their name is clearly gendered (macdude123, MaryJ). Actually, someone named "MaryJ" would be more likely to be a 19-year-old boy I think.

Because it's shiny and it's from Apple! :D (I read your sig)

Dock Expose looks really cool.

This post makes little sense even to a newbie like me. This site has been such a help to me I am astonished such a question would even be put forth. By the way I ordered Snow Leopard.

If I were you, I'd wait it out until solid reviews come in (and possible errors are fixed).
