I'm in a bit of a pickle here; I really want an iphone and I can save $30 if I order it by saturday. I'm graduating this year and my mom was going to get me one for graduation, but I'd really like it sooner than later, and it would be saving money. My mom was fine with me ordering one this week, but dad won't let me until I have a decent reason why I "need" one. Any suggestions?

perhaps tell him that it has internet on the go, which would be very useful for your course, or perhaps you need better email communication when you are out and about?

the ipod and video functions aren't really need, but want and everything else can be done by a normal phone.

perhaps telling him there are dozens of 3rd party apps available for it might twist his arm?

    good luck!

You can take notes with your iphone and it has a calculator. All school related. :D

    Hello, I'm a Dad

Having gone through this as a father I recommend that you sit down and tell him to his face that you would like it earlier as your graduation gift since you can put it to practical use now. Emphasize the savings, tell him that Apple has cut the price to make if more affordable. You need the phone in case of any emergency situations that may arise. That he will be able to contact you when the need arises. Most of all, tell him that you will love him for life but it is now time for him to treat and respect you as a man about to go forth into the world and that you will always think of him as you use your new Iphone. My daughters both used this logic and it was successful.

tell him you'll foot the $59.99 bill each month, that oughta do it. Or if he already pays your current cell bill, that you'll pay the difference each month. That shows responsibility. Saving $30 now is really nothing compared to a 2-year contract that is much more than that each month.

just tell him that he will have acess to you 24/7, and that you will never be lost because you have google maps, and that this gift will mean the world to you and when your 40 , you will remember this day as the happiest day in your life.:D

Or make a deal with him in which you'll obtain all As (or mostly As over Bs)

    Well...

The thing is, I did offer to pay the extra monthly charge. He just doesn't see why I would NEED it or why I would pay $400 for a phone. However, I remember paying $350 for a 30gb ipod photo a few years back and the iphone does WAY more than it did!!
