He said "if you broke it" meaning physically not if the hardware malfunctioned or stopped working.

Yea but the OP didnt say that, the guy assumed something, the OP said what if the hardware fails and he has to bring it in without being able to access it and restore it. The guy assumed "he broke it" which isn't true.

Thanks
AE

I guess I'll be the first one to say it.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa's Boooooooooooooooooy!

Here's my advice: Tell her if she lets you jailbreak her iPhone, you will eat your veggies, do your homework and go to bed on time for the next 3 months.

If you do promise her that and keep your promise, I would imagine any mother would let their son jailbreak their phone.

Just my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

Oh no, the Installous graphic is gone?! Anyway, if he meant to say "if you broke it" meaning dropped it or water damage, that is definitely not covered by warranty anyway. So in either case, whether you JB or not, the warranty is still the same. In other words, if you JB and have hardware failure, they will never be able to see you JB'd cause they can't turn phone on either (it happened to me) so you're still covered. But if you JB then drop your phone, it's not going to be covered because you dropped it. These outcomes would be the same even if you had never JB. It doesn't make sense when people worry about the warranty and JBing because its exactly the same: if you have a problem, restore and take it in. If you can't restore due to hardware failing, then they can't see you JB'd, so you're good there too.

You can't put an app on your iOS device unless you get the $99 developers account or jailbreak it.
So in other words this thread is about circumventing your mother's wishes as well as the developer program? As someone who wants to be a dev, you should be glad to pay the $99 developer fee.
It's not a jailbreak app -.-
Do some research before you post, and maybe actually read the thread?
Anyways, does anyone actually have serious suggestions that don't involve some sort of an insult?

Uh you best learn to understand what it means to ask for help. No one was insulting you. Your story is odd. You want to JB your phone so you can essentially circumvent paying for something that any other dev would need to pay for in order to develop of iOS. You then have the audacity to tell people how you want your responses delivered and then what is truly entertaining is the fact that you told people to read the thread? I'm pretty sure "we've" read it. I'm so sure that the responses here make more sense then your idea. You should be asking how to convince your mommy to pay for the developer fee. It seems like a much easier solution.

Agreed.

If your mother still has control over what you do, you arent even old enough to venture into something like this.

Plus the fact that you apparently don't know anything about jailbreaking (but can develop apps.. somehow) shows that you aren't ready to try developing on a jailbroken phone.

Not to mention the fact that is incredibly stupid to develop an app on a jailbroken phone because you need a stable test environment if you ever intend to release the app to the app store.

What a backwards thread.

If THIS argument works, this kid is WAY too young to even have an iphone. Jesus.

Give the kid a prepaid phone till he grows past the age of a bedtime and the "eat your veggies" argument.

Definitely. What a whiney lil child. Oh well, must be nice to have iPhone's handed to you, and asking questions and demanding answers. He was probably getting all anxious and demanding because his mom told him that his 15 minutes of using the computer were over and he needed to do his homework before bed.

i don't think your mom even knows what jailbreak iphone means, and most likely she won't notice iphone acting any differently.

Sounds like JR. spent all week coming up with an incredibly lame story that would get him free apps when its jailbroken.

Next! :apple:

^ THIS...

I think JR. is just looking for some legit ( he doesn't seem to know or care about) reasons to Jailbreak his phone so he can explain to mom why he's not just jailbreaking to install cracked apps. Thus show mommy he's not just a little thief.

"Hey Mom I need to jailbreak it so I can develop some apps for Apple idevices and make a ton of money for us Mom! trust me Jailbreaking is the only way to go about this, the experts at Macrumors forums said so...see!"

Mom's fooled so she's content, he gets his way, all is well.

I feel sorry for your mother you sneaky little bastid!

This thread is full of stupidity. By everyone.

OP wants to develop/learn to, but doesn't want to pay $99 to be able to load his beta apps on his device. The SDK is free from Apple. If he jailbreaks, he can.

Why he has to get permission from his mom is beyond me.

OP, jailbreaking won't break your phone. If it screws the software, vanilla iPhone is one "Restore" button away. If the hardware breaks (not by you dropping it, water damage, etc) and you can't power on the phone, you have a defective phone that would be replaced anyway. Jailbreaking has NO negative consequences.

Hey Guys,
So I'm just starting to develop iPhone apps, and I want to jailbreak my iPhone 4 so that I can test it (when GreenPois0n comes out of course).
How could I convince my mom that it's a good idea?
I should probably mention that I'm moving to Sweden next summer (I'm in US now), so I will need to JB it then anyways.

Thanks for taking your time!

Jailbreak != Unlock

Just because its jailbroken doesn't mean you'll be able to use it in sweden. You better hope you have your 4.0.2 hashes saved (which you obviously don't)

Did the OP move to Sweden earlier than expected? :D I'm sure he learned from this thread and will never ask for suggestions and then get pissy about the responses. And, how do you not know about the good 'ol restore feature, LOL? Even a noob like me knows what it's good for.
