Palm has been on life support anyway, and the Pre hasn't done well enough to save them. So I'd say that at most this accelerates a pretty inevitable demise. Too bad, because I really like webOS. Since I'm not interested in using all of google's services, android is pretty much out, and since I think blackberry is a relic from the 90's, that's out too. WebOS is really the only one I'd consider besides the iPhone (not that I'm looking to leave the iPhone anyway).

The old school Blackberry won't ever totally go away. I see more of those than anything nowadays. A lot of people who don't need all the bells and whistles and just want the great messaging capabilites will always to to RIM first.

I like WebOS. I think it's pretty slick and is pretty interesting. There will be a place for Palm too. It's not going to totally close down. I think it could take off once it gets to Verizon in the new year if everyone who wants a smartphone on Verizon doesn't already have the Droid. The OS just seems really fresh and well thought out. I'd hate to see a company like Palm shut down after coming up with a great product like that.

I wouldn't count on it. The web is becoming more and more ubiquitous. To be honest I think Palm and webOS is on the right track, they're just far too early to the party.
