i have a Blue and White that originally had a 400 MHz processor. it has been upgraded with the powerlogix 1.1 GHz G3 ZIF processor.

i am worried that it is getting too hot and i can't find a utility that will report CPU temps with this processor.

is there a fan that will fit the heatsink?? the powerlogix kit uses the heatsink from the original processor with a slight modification of the heatsink retaining clip for better contact between processor and heatsink but i don't think this is enough.

when i first boot it is fast and responsive (640 MB ram, OS X 10.4.5) but as it runs longer it gets slower and slower, i'm attributing this to heat though i may be wrong.

i shut down, wait awhile, reboot and all is as it was, i.e., fast at 1.0 GHz setting.

any fan available that fits this heatsink and cleasr obstructions inside the case?

    help much appreciated,

this probably wont help in the long run, but makes for an interesting temporary solution. My friend had the same problem with heat issues and ended up just runnin his tower with the side hatch open and a table top fan pointed directly in the case. I assume there are worries with dust issues, but he didnt care and ended up running it like that for a couple of months:rolleyes:

i seriously cooled my G4 dual CPU upgrade using a number of fans.

even getting a "better" papst fan to attach to the heatsink instead of the cheap fan that shipped with the upgrade didn't sufficiently cool the machine, so i modded it using a number of larger fans. now the G4 runs since about a year, without problems.

link to short description w. figures

i guess you could start with any fan as long as you can fix it to the heatsink somehow, and as long as you can power it. maybe you could wedge the screws between the ridge elements of the heatsink in order to fasten the fan?

this link has what you want. By the way how does that B/W run? My is stock 300/6GB HD, OS 9.2.2. Never had a problem with her, she ran SETI 24/7 for about 6 months till I installed OS X. I stuffed 3 more HDs inside even though it is a first generation B/W. I know what heat is, but that lone fan keeps things at 116F running UT99 after 2 hrs of online game play. I setup a 4" inch table fan directly behind the intake holes for a ram effect of air. It keeps things cool, about 114F with it on. Before those 3 extra HDs, I ran about 109F.

Oh by the way if you use TattleTech it will give reading about 2 degrees F higher than will Gauge PRO
