I'm contemplating Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q 4TB but I'm worried about temps. I would have it connected to Macbook Pro at all times. Can anyone tried using one of those Notepad cooling mats with active fans to keep those cooler? Something like this: Cooling mat

What you linked is for laptops!

Yes, it is. :) I couldn't find anything made specifically for M.2 NVMe enclosures so I figure laptop mats could be useful.

And just so I get it right.. Do you suggest getting two and sandwiching the enclosure between them?

I just rest my aluminium enclosure on the iMac stand base flat bottom bit, seems to dissipate well passively. Never noticed an issue but then again I’ve not run long long stress tests on it (TEKQ Rapide), just the usual stuff like BlackMagic/AJA etc.

Thanks. You are yet another real life user who tells me temps are not an issue with normal use. I don't run stress tests either just regular work so I think I should be fine.

As a side note... I have to admit that it just seems perilous to put all my stuff into this tiny, tiny box and imagine it can safely keep 4TB of data- it's seems so fragile as compared to a regular, large, heavy, solid HDD... 😁

What seems more perilous to me is writing lots of bits of data onto what it effectively a high-tech equivalent of a vinyl record deck and hoping to get the data back round every time. :) Solid state makes a lot more sense to my mind.

But if you really want perilous then I’d go back to the mercury delay lines...

Yes!!!! Looks at the share size of this thing - it must be reliable! Until liquid mercury leaks... 😂 Must have been peculiar to specialize in "data recovery" those days.

I know, I know... but old habits die hard! 😁
