Why would they have random phones talk to each other rather than just rebooting if the phone hasn't been connected to cellular for awhile in iOS 18 itself?
The "Find My" network leverages random phones (and others) talking to each other.

No, Your iPhone Is Not ‘Mysteriously Rebooting’: Here’s What’s Happening

As MacRumors already mentioned in its update to this article, this feature was not intended to make it harder for law enforcement to get into iPhones. That is just a welcome side effect!

Here's an excerpt from the article I linked to, above. It happens to be a quote from a report the article is quoting.

“Apple quietly introduced code into iOS 18.1 which reboots the device if it has not been unlocked for a period of time."

What I'm wondering is, if an iPhone hasn't been unlocked "for a period of time," isn't it also likely that its battery level is down to 0%?

Or does Apple already make provisions for this by leaving enough charge in the battery to perform a reboot even after the battery level reaches 0% and the iPhone has shut off?

Well Apple did install a backdoor in A12,A13,A14 and A15. CVE-2023-38606. I like Apple products like most people here but please stop being a blind follower. The backdoor was unnoticed for several years

EDIT: Did MacRumors ever post that story? I can’t find it. Most other Apple centric websites post these things but MR doesn’t like negative stories about Apple. Especially not when backdoors are discovered
