I just had a thought about Copy and Paste on the iPhone.
A few months back MacRumors posted patent info from Apple about finger gestures on the touch devices.
Yesterday there was talk during the financial conference call with Apple about a new product transition coming soon.
A few days back there was talk from an Apple rep that copy and paste is still on the table.
OK, if you put all of this together, it seems as though perhaps they are going to introduce a whole new vocabulary of "touch gestures" (similar to Newton's motions from the past) that work on the iPhone and the presumed new Macbook Touch. Perhaps they are waiting to introduce them at the same time, and therefore holding back the iPhone implementation of it. After all, this video points out how easy it would be to implement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXgsQhiGeag
I have the feeling it's all part of something bigger.
Just my $0.02
