There is no better quality than lossless. Lossless is bit per bit identical to the CD when you play it back.

the best compressed format you can play back is HE-AACv2, but that has to be ripped with something like Max. I use regular AAC+ and I'm fine.

Nope, Apple Lossless is the best if you're going to be using only Apple products.
