I recently got a mini w/Superdrive. I can't figure out how to duplicate my DVDs (I own them). Anyone know how? Thanks!

I am curious about this too. Those I own are generally write protected. In the PC world there is shareware like dvdshrink that allows you to back up your collection of DVDs. It either compresses the file to fit on a standard 4.7 GB disk or you can use the large 9+ GB disk if you are one of the few who orders them online. My understanding is that this little program works very well. As far as I know, you can't do this on the Mac without special software. You generally have to trick your computer into thinking the disk is not write protected in order to copy it. Again, I don't know what the equivalent Mac software is ... maybe someone reading this can shed some light on this for you.

Some of my friends are using a program called Popcorn (not free) on the Mac to do this but I haven't asked if they are trying this with write protected DVDs. Even if you can find a way to do this on the Mac I think you may want to read the disclaimer at the beginning of the DVD you are ultimately attempting to copy. You may not even be able to make "legitimate" copies of your own movies for your own private viewing. It's not the same as CDs from what I understand.

Look into a freeware program called dvdbackup. Then to compress it either dvd2onex or dvdremaster does the trick. Then you can burn it using Toast Titanium 6 as a dvdrom(udf)

I recommend PeterD42's solution. i've been using mac the ripper and popcorn for awhile and haven't found a dvd that I can't backup using this method.
