copying time machine backup

I have bought a new external hard disk. I want to copy my Time Machine backups from another external disk onto the new disk. Will my Time machine backup still work on the new disk? Thanks

Use CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to make a 1:1 copy.
Then select the new HDD in the TM Preferences as new TM HDD.
