I have a TM drive I been using with my macbook air all fine.
Got a new combo enclosure with a hdd and dvd in one box.

So copied data from the TM drive to new hdd in box.
then opend TM and pointed it to new drive.

Last time I did this on my macbook pro 2007 it asked if I wished to inherit the TM. I said yes.
But this was with El Capitan.

With sierra in my air it not not as to inherit and just started a full now backup.

Is there a way to force inherit?
Just that starting over I cannot go back through the old backups on this drive, only on the old backup drive.

I bought this combo box save on extra items I need carry around with my air as all in one box not several.

Did you follow this? It's definitely transferrable.

In my experience, I believe the 'inherit' box no longer appears. When I've moved a backup, it's appeared as though the initial backup is a full one, but is basically just performing the inherit process. Takes awhile.
