Waking Up...

Speaking of computers waking at a certain time... What ever happened to the ability of Macs to turn themselves on at a certain time you chose? I remember when I could do this on my '040 Performa. Anyone know if it still exists or will ever show up again?

Since I got my 28 inch Toshiba TV, dvd player, and 5.1 surround sound system, I loath DVD's on the computer.

I even felt empty watching "Hamlet" on a projector without the 5.1 sound.

And just in time for the World Cup!

It is still there under OS 9.x in the Energy Saver control panel. I don't have OS X right in front of me, so I cannot check for that. IF it's not there now, it probably will be in the next revision of OS X.

Ahhh - Technology...

Well - up until a few years ago, I was watching a 14" Colour TV in the bedroom. Now with the 15" LCD with the Cube, the picture quality is sooooo much better, and we can watch DVD's in bed - the Harman Kardon soundsticks and subwoofer are AMAZING!!!

I've also got the Cube hooked up to a TV tuner (Eskape Lab's USB MyTV), and that's connected to the Sky Digibox in the Living Room - so I can watch TV as well in full screen glory.

All I need now - besides, perhaps, a nice 22" LCD if I win the lottery - is a decent all-round remote commander (I heard that Keyspan is putting out a stunner at Macworld, so that'll complete the AV experience - could this be the fabled "Bluetooth"?), and I'll be like that bloke from David Byrne's video of the song "Lazy".

;)

Is the MyTV any good? I've been wanting one for ages but I can't seem to find a decent price for it. Where did you get yours and how many £ did you pay?

Re: Cordless Apple Keyboard and Mouse & and ieMac & WiniPod

Wireless mice and keyboards are all very nice, except I know someone whose wireless transmitter got stolen for his mouse and everything else was left on his desk. His mouse became a hockey puck. Worse yet, all wireless peripherals I've seen require batteries. What are we to do when the batteries run out? Hope Apple puts some Lithium batteries in there that won't ever run out!

Hi

This morning in the post I recieved a CD from containing information on Apples most recent products and innitives, in the Bluetooth demo the guy who is head of Wireless and Portables said:

"Eventually we can imagine Wireless Mice, Printers, keyboards aswell as cell phones"

To me this suggests Wireless Mice from Apple at NY or Paris.

ieMac

In the eMac movie the head of the emac / education devision refers to the eMac as the iMac by accident, I think this kind of suggests that the iMac (G3) will be dropped at NY.

----

WiniPod

In the iPod information movie a woman says:

"Apple has yet to make the iPod available to Windows"

Does this mean they will? Does this mean they wont?

Let me know what you think :)

Re: MyTV

G'day Dunepilot -

I got mine about 18 months ago from Micro Anvika on Tottenham Court Road in London - it cost me around £130. The unit works fine in OS9, but the drivers for OSX are still in beta - not bad, but not good either (the framerates seem far superior, but there are a few unwanted artefacts on screen, and the image doesn't fill the entire width of the monitor just yet, unlike in OS9). A few more tweaks, and it'll be fine).

The general concensus is that the new drivers will be released to coincide with the Macworld Expo, as Eskape Labs are putting up a big spot. Yay!

It's still a good system - but it is only USB. If you want a more sophisticated system, try the Formac Studio - besides giving you a TV tuner, it gives you monitor outputs, proper audio, and is FireWire-based (and therefore a better bandwidth and higher quality). It costs a bit more, though - £350. Gulp...
