I had taken the 15 inch MBP into consideration, but only for a short amount of time. While I do like bigger screens with desktops, I prefer smaller ones with laptops, I just think it would be to bulky and heavy for me, so I wanted to stick with 13 inch models. Also, I am not from the US nor from the UK, so eBay is only an option if they ship worldwide, but then it has to be dirt cheap because it adds up with shipping. Where I'm from, the older 15' MBPs are like 100-150 Euros more expensive than 13 inch ones, so that's an issue as well. Another thing is, based just by benchmarks, the iMacs just seem a whole lot faster than any MBP, so that's my concern as well.

Understand that. My beef with the 13's is the screen resolution - I actually prefer the physical size, but 1200x800 is just not enough (the 15" is 1440x900, and that little bit does make a pretty big difference). Have you checked Amazon? They have a UK page, so I assume they'd have resellers much like the US page. As for the price difference, I completely understand - that's the reason I'm still rockin' an 09 mini and a crappy Dell laptop - holding out for a new MBP in the future! :)

Thanks for the reply, but I wrote that I don't live in UK nor in the US, you might have gotten that wrong :) I am actually from the Balkan ;) That might be the reason you have misunderstood me, English is not my native language :)

Oh yes.

Here is my Samsung 830 in a USB 3 enclosure connected to my MacBook Pro via USB 2:

That can't be right. USB 2 has a theoretical transfer speed of 480Mbit/s = 60MB/s. In reality you rarely get speeds faster than about 35MB/s.

No, not you at all. I just saw the not from US and saw UK and thought.......... ah, that's why reading comprehension is so important; and why I'm so bad at it lol. You have to actually READ something completely in order to understand it. Sorry... :)

No problem :)

I lie not. It was done as I stated.

I think we need video lol. That said, I'm gonna try it this weekend. Gonna pull the SSD from my Dell and drop it in my USB 2 dock and compare. :) I won't get your speeds regardless (I only get ~104MBps internally with this crappy old Dell), but I'd like a direct comparison.

Personally, I hope you're right! I'd love to see those kind of speeds externally.

I can sure do a video later today. No problem at all.

Maybe the Blackmagic display is wrong. MB/s instead of Mbit/s. If the maximum effective throughput is 280 Mbit/s, then my test would be on par with the standard.

USB 2.0
USB 2.0 was released in April 2000 (now called "Hi-Speed"), adding higher maximum signaling rate of 480 Mbit/s (due to bus access constraints the effective throughput is limited to 35 MB/s or 280 Mbit/s), in addition to the "USB 1.x Full Speed" signaling rate of 12 Mbit/s

If it was a 2012 MBP 15" as you state on your website, it actually has USB 3. The speeds shown by Black Magic make sens for a USB 3 connection.

Yeah that's the MBP. Are you serious it's USB 3? I could have always sworn it was 2.0.

Yup. Well that solves that mystery! I just remoted home to my iMac to look it up in MacTracker too.

Wow, I feel a little embarrassed about this!

But, I'm happy to know it's better than I thought! Thanks for setting me straight.

No problem. Glad we sorted it out. :)

Okay, since this thread has gone slightly off-topic (not that I mind :)) I think I'll go for the mid 2009 24 inch iMac or maybe the 2008 one if it differs a lot in price :) Just one more question, is 380 euros (about 520 USD) a good deal for the highest end 24 inch iMac from 2008, it comes with two mice (wireless and wired) and a keyboard (tho I am not sure which kind of mice and keyboards)?

Yeah, I think that's a good price for it, as long as it's in good working order of course.

Yes, everything works and it comes with 4GB of RAM instead of 2. How much more expensive do you think the 2009 24 inch version should be? (sorry to bother you, I know I am annoying :))

Not annoying at all; glad to be able to help.

I don't really know how much more it should be, but I wouldn't think it should be any more than a couple of hundred dollars more. That's just an uneducated guess.

You could cruise eBay or Craigslist to look for a similar machine just to see what they're going for as a comparison.

Thanks! I've asked similar questions on several forums, but your forum was by far the nicest! Once I buy something, I'll definitely share if anyone is in a similar situation like me :)
