I would just go with the base model you will be very happy. I was with mine no issues no over active fan. And a great size for what it is able to do.

I fully agree with this comment. I have a base model 2010 13" and I absolutely love it. This is the most versatile computer I've ever owned and the first one that I wasn't looking for a replacement for after owning it for 6 months. I previously had a 17" HP for gaming, a 12" tablet for office work, and a 10" netbook to take with me everywhere due to size and portability.

My macbook managed to replace them all and handle all their tasks (minus touch/pen input, I use my iPad for that) easily.

Well I went to Bestbuy and they had a fresh return of an i5 base model 2.4 for 10% off. It wasnt even used but the person returned it because they didnt want it. So for $1600 I didnt want to pass it up. This will be a little extra and the extra pound didnt seem that bad so I splurged. Its awesome. The 13 is too but I figured 200 off was too good to be true.

One question about calibration. I charged it fully and let the power cord be in it for an extra 2 or so hours. I then used it until it basically shut off due to no power. Cant I just plug it in and let it charge all the way without letting it sit for 5 hours. Its not sleeping I dont think. It actually shut off as it was at zero percent. Will charging it now ruin the calibration?

What's the life expectancy on C2D machines? If they are well taken care of physically and maybe the battery is replaced, should a typical C2D last for three or four more years on a three year old machine???

My logic board failed at just over three years. It was in a MBP 17" C2D running at 2.33 Mhz. The battery lasted longer by about eight months.

once you've fully charged and discharged it, you can do whatever.

Any idea what might have caused it or how common this might be? I had a 15" 2.33Mhz C2D MBP for three years and never had a problem. I know lots of Powerbooks are still operating out in the wild. What's the secret to getting a good, used laptop? What's the secret to maintain your laptop? Blind luck?
