CoreNFC-API, has Apple silently opened NFC for the rest of us?

Spotted CoreNFC as one of the new APIs for iOS11:

[...]Using Core NFC, you can read Near Field Communication (NFC) tags of types 1 through 5 that contain data in the NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF).[...]

It seems that we finally get access to the NFC-reader on compatible devices directly.

Anyone insights or details on that, as this would be really great news?

Hmm just iPhone 7 and 7+.
And only NFC ndef what ever those are.
    Would be nice.
But if it's read only and not communicate you can't open doors etc.

    >Your app can read tags to give users more information about their physical environment and the real-world objects in it.

Seems like it! Looking forward to this.
