We're doing a complete overhaul of our internal infrastructure at work, moving to a global IT framework blah blah.

We need local domain names for our UK and US offices, but they can't be named by region or even region based (so no US and UK, no EU and Americas, no Pound and Dollar, no Coffee and Tea, no Pacific and Atlantic etc). They need to be short (max 6 characters), easy to remember and easy to spell (users are stupid after all!).

Any ideas? It's surprisingly difficult to come up with anything decent!

Name them after brands of alcohol particular to the region. That should be really easy to remember.

e.g. For the US, Budweiser; for Germany, Becks etc.

Or by their currency.

Dollars

Pounds

Euros

?

edit: (I just read post below)

What about something really bland and simple, like boring people names

Frank

Bob

Dave

But these names can't be region based at all. You see, there's a good possibility that the US might end up supporting Hong Kong and we might end up supporting Germany, so we don't want Germany logging on to Guinness, or Hong Kong logging on to Budweiser. You know?

George & Mildred

Harold & Maude

Smokey & teh Bandit

Bush & Blair

Donuts & Scones (or Donuts & Doughnuts)

Why has no-one suggested:

Point & Click

or

Look & Feel

yet?

And you call yourselves nerds!!!

Ooh, Jobs & Gates?

You can have:

Point, Click, Look, Feel and Lisa.

The names of the hamsters in Microserfs...

Or
Scott, Markkula, Sculley, Spindler, Amelio and Jobs

Or something much sadder:

Luke, Han, Leia, Anakin, Ben...

You need to use the Porn Star Name Game, I knew it'd come in useful one day. :D

We're going to see if we can convince the US to go with Greek Gods.

We want to take Zeus and see if the US will take Apollo, course there's plenty of room for expansion should we need more too

it's a financial corp, what do you expect? boring is a way of life to the suits of the city. i bet they think it's so cool too.

edit: I'll bite you too then.

<yawn>
