i would go with cars companies from the region

Mini -UK
Fiat -Euro

Something like that. You could always do Larry, Moe and Curly too.

What about...big cats? Seriously? Puma, Tiger, Panther, Leopard, Cheetah, etc... They're not region based and they're relatively easy to remember.

Yeah, but when you start getting beyond those two the question becomes what language to use. Is it Idéfix or Dogmatix? Panoramix or Getafix? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recurring_characters_in_Asterix
