Cosmetic flaw or issue? Should I return?

Hey all!

Would love some advice - is this a cosmetic issue (circled in the pic) or an actual problem/hardware issue?

It’s definitely a cosmetic issue. Mine is smooth there. Whether or not it’s a problem I don’t know.

I would return that immediately. Looks like some poorly trained/overworked technician wasn't careful enough, and just threw it together anyway. I worked in hardware integration on multi thousand/million dollar equipment, that would be an automatic fail on a simple QA check. I understand these are prob being pushed out fast and on the clock due to demand and cost but I still find it unacceptable on a $2000-4000 range laptop. Just be aware you may run into new issues on the next one and the next one and so on...

Honestly, regardless of WHAT it is, if it’s going to bug you going foward return it.. at this price point things should be really flawless coming out of the gates

Also to let Apple knows that since we are paying top money, we have zero tolerance of products with QC issues.

Cosmetic QC issue. It happens, but don't give Apple a free pass on this, it's a premium machine that you bought, at a premium price. Ask for a swap!

Hey all! Just returned it yesterday. Had to actually have them open two because the first had a massive scratch on the front.

The third was the charm - got a perfect screen and no other issues I can tell. Thank for all for the help.

Congratulations! Thanks for closing the loop on this issue. I am glad Apple treated you well. Good job making them open the box to check for flaws. I have been lucky enough to never have a cosmetic flaw on any Apple product I ordered.
