So my friend spilled soda on my 2007 MBP yesterday (with the old type keyboard), and even after letting in dry out for a couple days, the keyboard does not function at all. Everything else seems to be working, it boots up fine...

So, if I bring this to apple to have them fix it (my warranty's expired, though that doesn't matter in this case), how much should I expect it would cost to have them replace the keyboard?

I'm expecting my friend will be paying for this, so i'm mostly just curious how much this will cost him... :D And also curious because if its going to be >$1000, I suppose it could be a good time for an upgrade...

Which MacBook Pro is it?
Cause I have one, though it's a UK layout. Fits the MBP Santa Rosa 2.2/2.4/2.5Ghz. It doesn't have the back light module but if you have one on yours, you could unstick it and add it on.

PM me if your interested.

yeah, but I'd rather not go through all the work of replacing the keyboard myself if someone else is going to pay for it. it's not fair that my friend breaking my computer should force me to spend hours repairing it. time is money, you know?

I would bring it in to an apple store now and find out, but I'll be out of the country for a few weeks and so I'm just curious.

and plus im not even totally sure if the keyboard is the ONLY thing broken.

I did fry the kb of my MBP two years ago like yours, and replaced it myself. Not too difficult. If you go that way allow me to recommend this UK Mac parts site:

http://www.thebookyard.com/

They will also probably give you a discount if you send them the broken keyboard if some keys are still fine (they can sell them individually).

Plug in an external keyboard - that should let you see if your MBP operates normally with a working keyboard.

Has anyone tried spray contact cleaner on a MPB keys?

ok, well i plugged in a keyboard today and tried it. everything seemed fine at first, but then i started having weird trackpad issues where the cursor would start flickering and it would always jump to certain menu items when i tried to click.... starting to think there's more than just the keyboard that got fried....
