Costco doesn't sell phones. Sales are outsourced to Wireless Advocates. You can't just get a contract free phone and go. You have to buy an iPhone for Verizon, T-Mobile or AT&T and sign up for a plan at the kiosk. While you can return a phone under Costco's 90 day policy. You may have to pay termination fees on your contract.

I'd expect them to have them as quickly as any third party reseller.

They sell them contract free in the Australian costco. Didn't realize it wasn't universal. I pre-ordered with Apple to cover myself but I think I'll be returning it and buying from Costco (better warrenty and you can return anything to costco anytime as long as you have the docket)
